Description 
A star-delta control system is used to start asynchronous motors greater than 4 kW. They are used in an attempt to reduce the start current applied to the motor during start as a means of reducing the disturbances andinterference on the electrical supply.
 
Advantages of this system: 
• start independent of operator
• start current approx. 2/3 lower as direct start in delta
• start time adjustable
• low voltage release
